I believe nature's glory is everywhere, even at the most deadly or ugly
corners on earth. No matter where you are, the sun would eventually
shine through the place and present to you its unique beauty... even
with deep scars at times...

Cheers
The
very first TV show I watched when coming to this country 29 years ago
was Cheers. I remember watching it every night right before dinner. I
couldn't understand what they were talking about or laughing about. But
nonetheless, I thought the show was very funny, based on really simple
stories!
Well,
nearly 30 years later, I can now watch 8-10 episodes in one night,
through a thing called Netflix... AND... I can totally get what they
were saying and why they were laughing -- how about that!

Your Support Will Make a Difference in People's Lives
Inspired
by Kyle Bryant’s TED Talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdQnKIoyJkc&sns=em,
I recently became a member of National Ataxia Foundation to help fight a rare condition
called Ataxia. The word
"ataxia" comes from the Greek word "a taxis," meaning
"without order or coordination." Ataxia is caused by neuro-degenerative diseases. Patients will gradually lose control of their balance, physical movements,
and eventually die within 30 years of the onset of the disease.
Similar to ALS, ataxia is a rare neurological disease. About 1 in 10,000 people acquire ataxia genetically and only 4 in 100,000 people worldwide have Dominant Ataxia. Due to this very low disease prevalence and the lack of public awareness, funding for ataxia research has been extremely limited, which is why thousands of ataxia patients are still suffering from their disease progression without any treatment.
The history of ataxia research began with Dr. John W. Schut, the brilliant physician and researcher whose determination to find the cause and cure for ataxia led to the formation of the National Ataxia Foundation in 1957. Now 60 years later, the National Ataxia Foundation continues to fund the best, most relevant ataxia research aimed at moving us closer to a world free of ataxia. This commitment has resulted in important progress in understanding the disease mechanism, gene identification and translational research. National Ataxia Foundation is leading the fight to end ataxia and is a driving force behind breakthroughs to find treatments to stop the disease progression, restore function, and end ataxia forever.
Please join us in the fight to end human suffering from ataxia by donating to NAF’s ataxia research funds (please select the research category: Dominant Ataxia)

Serenity
Comparing
to the past few years, this spring/summer has been uncharacteristically
calm and quiet. I haven't taken significant photography trips since
April just so I can save up enough vacation time for the long trip with
National Geographic to Antarctica in January 2018...
The
quietness gives me more time to think, reflect and appreciate a
different pace in life, and I think it is also fully represented in
these photos!!

The Little Guys
Weekend was overwhelming and exhausting!! The long awaited swan babies
finally arrived - 6 of them all together... and you can finish the rest
of the story. I took many trips to the "Swan Lake," and they'd put on
such a show for me each time!

The Seven Dwarfs
I set the alarm clock at 1:25am, got up and left my hotel room before 2am to go visit my seven little dwarfs...
They
stood under the nightly sky, in the desert, quietly and attentively.
Their official name is "Seven Magic Mountains" -- the artwork by
internationally renowned Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone. Comprised of seven
towers of colorful, stacked boulders
standing more than thirty feet high, Seven Magic Mountains is a creative
expression of human presence in the desert. It punctuates the Mojave with a poetic burst of form and color.
