Little Michelle's high school years... (2)

Talking about a devoted and worried mother, here is another random email trail.  It was with Michelle's AP Calculas teacher back in 2007 when Michelle was 17...  My little Michelle surely kept me busy!!  And she would probably tell you that I was not nearly as devoted as I should be simply because I moved away from our family for my JOB -- how crazy and stupid is that???

I have to say that life is so much better now, and I appreciate it each and every day!

Dear Mr. Ried,

I am Michelle Zhang's mom and I would like to get in touch with you to learn more about Michelle's progress in your class.  Since I travel extensively for my job, I usually stay in touch with Michelle's teachers via e-mail throughout the year so that I am aware of potential issues with Michelle.

Michelle is a smart kid, and deep inside, she is a good person.  However, I have found that in order for her to do better, she needs to be motivated and she needs positive reinforcement.  Her main interest is in reading and writing, but I constantly tell her why she needs to do well in science and math.

Do you think she has a good understanding of the subject so far?  Does she pay attention to the class?  Does she put enough efforts into this class?  Is there anything I can do to help her do better?  Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Pei

Dear Mr. Ried,

I hope you received the e-mail I sent to you at the beginning of the school year.  Since I have not heard from you, and because Michelle has expressed difficulties in understanding this class, I would like to set up a follow-up meeting with you to discuss Michelle's performance and progress in your class.

As mentioned to you in my earlier e-mail, I travel extensively for my job.  So, I have very limited time in Chicago.  I will be in Chicago Wednesday (10/31) and Thursday (11/1) of this week.  Is it possible for us to meet for 20 minutes before or after classes?  Wednesday is a better day for me.  Please let me know.

I am taking Michelle to visit colleges in the Northeast today and tomorrow.  I hate to have her miss school, but due to me and my husband's work schedule, this is the only time I can take her.  Let me know if she doesn't make up the work for your class.

Thanks and I look forward to our meeting.

Pei
